INTRO TO THE MUSIC
by Elina Christova, Concert Pianist
Scott Hiltzik's music is of a refined and stylish quality one rarely encounters in the works of modern composers. Exceptionally playable and pianistically written, it also provides the performer with what only a few contemporary compositions do: structure, logical internal development, and the type of lyricism that seems to be all but forgotten by the majority of artists working today. With sweeping late-romantic harmonies and textures and simultaneously a cerebral quality to moments of motivic development, his music resounds very much in the tradition of Aaron Copland and Robert Schumann, both representative composers of their respective eras. Likewise, Scott’s unmistakably modern music, evoking and provoking 21st century sensibilities and emotions, stands as a body of work worth noting and performing and very much of our time.
